Ms Afrin Zaidi is a Research Associate and Area Convenor at the Centre for Geospatial Technology Application of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). She specialises in the application of remote sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable landscape management. Her expertise spans modelling spatial carbon sequestration potential, assessing forest and biodiversity vulnerability, conducting climate change and disaster modelling, and applying multisource Earth observation data for forest biomass assessments. She has also worked extensively on bamboo inventory mapping in Central India, environmental impact assessments of mining areas, and ecological impact assessments in the East Jaintia District of Meghalaya.

She has contributed to diverse projects integrating geospatial analysis with environmental planning for leading research institutions and organisations. Her work combines advanced geospatial techniques with policy-relevant insights to support data-driven decision-making for ecological sustainability. Afrin has co-authored scientific publications and brings hands-on experience with institutions such as the Indian School of Business and Garuda UAV.

Afrin holds a Master’s degree in Geoinformatics from the TERI School of Advanced Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Delhi.
