  • Smart mini-grid to light up Gurgaon

    The world's highest efficiency solar thermal cooling system was inaugurated at the Solar Energy Centre in Gurgaon on 1 July 2011. The new 100-kW solar air-conditioning system works at 30% higher efficiency than the currently available systems and has several unique features. The project was inaugurated at TERI by Union new and renewable energy minister Dr Farooq Abdullah in a ceremony attended by the Union power minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde. The system is called smart mini-grid and is based on an intelligent electricity distribution network. These SMGs use advanced sensing, communication and control technologies to generate, manage, distribute and utilize electricity at the local distribution levels more intelligently and effectively.
