  • President Kalam presents TERI Corporate Awards for Environmental Excellence and CSR

    The Hon'ble President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, today felicitated eight Indian corporates - chosen from among 152 applications received this year - for Environmental Excellence and Corporate Social Responsibility in the sector. The TERI Corporate Awards ceremony, an annual event on the corporate calendar since 2001, saw the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms Sheila Dikshit deliver the Special Address. Dr Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Chairman, Hero Group; and Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI shared the dais.

    A 9-member jury, chaired by Justice J S Verma, Former Chief Justice of India, selected the winners after an intense screening process. The evaluation and grading process is carried out at three levels: First, a team of members at TERI assesses the applications. At the second stage of evaluation, a group of external advisors with expertise in different fields reviews the case studies and finally, the jury recommends the case studies selecting the best three in each category. This year, 152 corporates applied for the two categories of the prestigious awards.

  • In recognition of the ongoing process of environmental management and protection accompanied by the adoption of a socially responsible approach to business within the Indian corporate sector, TERI instituted the TERI Corporate Awards for Environmental Excellence in 2001 and TERI Corporate Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility in 2002. A unique feature of the TERI corporate Awards, among its other aims and objectives of working in the field of sustainable development, is that it seeks to create awareness and implement strategies for improving environmental management standards.

    At the ceremony today, the President also released two TERI publications, 'Citizens at Work' and 'Cleaner is Cheaper'.
