TERI-ITEC Courses 2013-14 Course VIII - Integrated approach towards sustainable development
The three weeks residential training programme on 'Integrated Approach towards Sustainable Development' conducted by TERI University and TERI and funded by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India, was successfully completed on 18 April 2014. The training was held from 31 March to 18 April 2014 at the TERI Retreat, Gual Pahari and attended by 26 participants from 21 ITEC and SCAAP countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa. The participants included government officials, researchers and academics.
The purpose of this training course was to offer knowledge and skills to incorporate sustainability concerns in policy/managerial decisions utilizing systematic approaches. The course covered environmental systems, natural resources and sustainability, economic reasoning, and sustainable development practices. The training course included interactive classroom sessions for two weeks and a field trip to the TERI Himalayan Center at Mukteshwar. The classroom discussions were led by experts in different fields from TERI University, TERI and other leading experts from India. In addition, the participants spent a week at the TERI Himalayan Center where the participants visited research facilities on sustainable practices and sites to see models of sustainable technologies implemented in villages and to interact with villagers. As part of the cultural experience, they were also taken for sightseeing to Agra and Delhi; and visited some cultural programs in the evening. The participants gave good feedback about the usefulness of the course and content and a desire for continued engagement with TERI and TERI University.
