TERI-ITEC Programme - Renewable energy and energy efficiency
About the Programme
TERI has been empanelled by the ITEC (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme)/Special Commonwealth Assistance for Africa Programme (SCAAP) of the Government of India. The BETA (Biomass Energy Technology Applications) group of the EETD (Energy Environment Technology Development) division of TERI organized an international training programme on 'Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency' under ITEC programme from 4 to 22 January 2010. In this programme, 29 engineers/scientists/policy makers from Bangladesh, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Eritrea, Estonia, Indonesia, Iran, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru, Tanzania, Thailand, Ukraine and Zimbabwe participated.
The training consisted of in-depth understanding of the renewable energy, energy conservation and energy efficiency concepts, their applications and policy aspects; practical demonstrations. The training programme was held at Gual Pahari. It included field visits, followed by a week's stint at TERI-SRC Bangalore. The course was divided into three modules. The first module covered the theoretical aspects of renewable energy on biomass, solar, wind, small hydro and industrial energy efficiency and application of RETScreen software. etc. The second module consisted of visits to various installations of biomass gasifier, Waste to energy and biomass briquetting. The third module was conducted at TERI-SRC Bangalore, which covered energy conservation and energy efficiency in industry, green building concepts and visits to solar photovoltaic manufacturing plant, CPRI (Central Power Research Institute), MGIRED (The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Energy and Development) and gasifier based mid day meal preparation unit.
The course was well appreciated by all the participants. The overall satisfaction coupled with the willingness of a few of them to continue the association of their respective countries with TERI in near future, describes the success of this training programme.
