COP15: Climate justice and sustainable development: intensifying the dialogue between EU, India and China
(IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute Ltd.)

Together with AGCC (Action for a Global Climate Community), IVL presented studies carried out to promote close collaboration between EU (European Union), India and China by identifying possible areas of close collaboration. The focus was to identify elements that can help to create a climate community that can lead the world in the fight against climatic change within the framework of continued economic development. This included identification of opportunities and critical factors for increasing the involvement of China and India in climate policy.

The side event also highlighted the study that was carried out jointly by TERI and a consortium of organizations from EU comprising SEI, IVL, CICERO and Linkoping University. The study aimed to highlight the possible areas of collaboration between EU and India to combat climate change. The report highlighted the areas where EU can support India so as to promote climate change mitigation, while addressing local problems. Solar Mission and Enhanced Energy Mission were highlighted as starting points for collaboration as they are important initiatives taken by India within its National Action Plan on Climate Change.

The report served as a background paper for the high level EU-India summit held on 6 November 2009 in New Delhi. To view the report, visit here.
