Collaborative Research
Management through Open Access

When we discuss Open Data, the term ‘open’ has a
specific meaning as defined in ‘The Open Definition’,
which sets out principles that define ‘openness’ in
relation to data and content: ‘Open means anyone
can freely access, use, modify, and share for any
purpose (subject, at most, to requirements that
preserve provenance and openness).’ ‘Horizon 2020’
documentation supports this definition by stating
that openly accessible research data ‘can typically
be accessed, mined, exploited, reproduced and
disseminated, free of charge for the user’.
‘Open Access’ and ‘Open Access to Research Data’ are
well-aligned concepts related to enabling access to
publicly funded research. We engage and invest in
research in order to explore:

In the process, one has to overcome several impending issues, including information explosion, technology
obsolescence, skill development, and so on. However, the lack of universal access to knowledge is found to be one of
the major obstacles.

Over the past decade, Open Access has become central to advancing the interests of researchers, scholars, students,
business, and the public at large. Increasingly, institutions that support research—from public and private research
funders to higher education institutions—are implementing policies that require researchers to make available their
research output for the research fraternity and citizens at large.
