GO4Youth

GREEN Olympiad for Youth (GO4Youth) is open for any student in the age group of 18 – 30 years
and enrolled in a Higher Education Institution (HEIs) in India

Background

GO4Youth is implemented by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and endorsed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

With the growing urgency of climate change and environmental degradation, there is a need to integrate environmental education into young people's lives in an engaging and meaningful way. GREEN Olympiad, our flagship programme, since 1999 (www.teriin.org/olympiad) creates awareness among school students about environmental and sustainable development. This initiative also has a Higher Education Institution (HEI) segment named the GREEN Olympiad for Youth (GO4Youth). GO4Youth is an annual MCQ-based examination for students that evaluates environmental consciousness, behaviour, and aptitude of individuals. This is an initiative that perfectly complements the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which highlights the importance of sustainability and environmental awareness in the education system. Through engaging and interactive Olympiad, the initiative fosters critical thinking, problem-solving and a proactive attitude among youth, encouraging them to adopt sustainable practices and become active contributors to a greener future, in line with the NEP emphasis on environmental consciousness and the development of responsible global citizens.

The examination has an interdisciplinary approach and will cover information about the framework for Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Campus Development in HEIs (SATAT), Mission LiFE, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Net Zero, Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari, and Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan other national priority schemes.

GO4Youth also aspires to support UGC which has formulated a new student-centric Curriculum and Credit incorporating a flexible choice-based credit system, multidisciplinary approach, and multiple entry and exit options to pursue their career path by choosing the subject/field of their interest.

Why should students participate in GO4Youth?

  • Unique interdisciplinary programme that strengthens environmentally conscious behaviour and attitude of youth
  • Enhances awareness about topics related to fields of science, technology, policy, economics and social aspects of the environment, with a focus on energy, environment and sustainable development
  • Augments understanding of Mission LiFE, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Net Zero, Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari, and Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan other national priority schemes
