GREEN Olympiad is India's first annual examination on environmental issues for school students. The examination is designed innovatively to test the knowledge of students and also educate and sensitize them in the process. One of its kinds in India, the GREEN Olympiad asks questions on environment and sustainable development.

GREEN Olympiad for Youth (GO4Youth) was launched in 2020 on the side-lines of GREEN Olympiad. It is also an annual MCQ-based examination designed for students enrolled in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to check the level of awareness and comprehension of the students about climate change, pollution, waste management, sanitation, conservation of biological diversity, management of biological resources and biodiversity, forest and wildlife conservation, and sustainable development and living.
GO4Youth is endorsed by University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

4. What is the Syllabus/ Text books for GREEN Olympiad and GO4Youth?

GREEN Olympiad addresses a range of topics such as water, waste, energy, air, biodiversity, climate, global warming, sustainable development, culture, green skills and current affairs pertaining to environment and sustainable development. In 2023, we promoted Mission LiFE and the vision of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India to reach out to students in all parts of the country.

GO4Youth aims to have an interdisciplinary approach and will cover information about Mission LiFE and other national priority schemes. The examination aims in engaging students in a systemic exercise through an innovative competitive process, designed to check the level of awareness and comprehension of the students about climate change, pollution, waste management, sanitation, conservation of biological diversity, management of biological resources and biodiversity, forest and wildlife conservation, and sustainable development and living. This year, we also aspire to support UGC that has formulated a new student-centric ‘Curriculum and Credit incorporating a flexible choice-based credit system, multidisciplinary approach, and multiple entry and exit options to pursue their career path by choosing the subject/field of their interest.

Hence the examination is not based on any prescribed syllabus or textbooks. We encourage the participants to do extensive reading and be well versed with current affairs, facts and changes linked to the environment around them. It is desirable that students do an extensive self-study and then attempt the paper. The questions will trigger reasoning and help them develop an aptitude for adopting a pro-environment lifestyle.
