GREEN Olympiad is India's first annual examination on environmental issues for school students. The examination is designed innovatively to test the knowledge of students and also educate and sensitize them in the process. One of its kinds in India, the GREEN Olympiad asks questions on environment and sustainable development.

GREEN Olympiad for Youth (GO4Youth) was launched in 2020 on the side-lines of GREEN Olympiad. It is also an annual MCQ-based examination designed for students enrolled in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to check the level of awareness and comprehension of the students about climate change, pollution, waste management, sanitation, conservation of biological diversity, management of biological resources and biodiversity, forest and wildlife conservation, and sustainable development and living. GO4Youth is endorsed by University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

GREEN Olympiad: Students of grades 4 – 12 enrolled in a school affiliated to recognized educational board or trust are eligible to appear for GREEN Olympiad. Private coaching institute and similar entities are not allowed to participate in this exam.

GO4Youth: College students in the age group of 18-25 years, and enrolled in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in India, can participate in GO4Youth.

In 2024, GREEN Olympiad will only accept school-based registration. Schools can either register online or offline through the registration portal- https://teri-greenolympiad.com

• Rs 200 per student enrolled in schools based in India / USD 6 per student enrolled in schools based outside India
• Schools in India can retain Rs 20 per enrolled student for conducting the examination on campus and for any other logistical expenditure
• Additional charges for availing Resource Booklet (optional): Rs 120 per student enrolled in schools based in India / USD 4 for students enrolled in schools based outside India.

A. Schools in India can remit the total fee by payment gateway method during registration, bank transfer or through a Bank Draft drawn in favour of TERI, payable at New Delhi (offline registration). Cash/ cheque/bank transfers will not be accepted.

B. For schools located outside India, kindly remit the total fee through bank transfer.

The school will be the centre for its registered students. GREEN Olympiad Secretariat will send question papers and OMR sheets before the examination.

GREEN Olympiad addresses a range of topics such as water, waste, energy, air, biodiversity, climate, global warming, sustainable development, culture, green skills and current affairs pertaining to environment and sustainable development. Since 2023, we are promoting Mission LiFE and the vision of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India to reach out to students in all parts of the country and beyond. The paper comprises of multiple choice questions that test students’ knowledge, application and analytical skills and simultaneously spreads awareness through informative questions. There is no negative marking and students are expected to appear for a paper-based examination within the confines of the school. GO4Youth examination is not based on any prescribed syllabus or textbooks. We encourage the participants to do extensive reading and be well-versed with current affairs, facts and changes linked to the environment around them. It is desirable that students do an extensive self-study and then attempt the paper. The questions will trigger reasoning and help them develop an aptitude for adopting a pro-environment lifestyle. While registering for the examination, there will be an option to choose if they wish to purchase a resource booklet. The book will offer a range of questions captured from several editions of the GREEN Olympiad examination to capture one’s imagination to propel further into the journey and prepare to attempt the GREEN Olympiad with a greater understanding and awareness about environment and sustainable development issues. The resource booklet will also comprise of brief literature focussing on issues under environment and sustainable development theme.
