Children's Corner

Hello folks!

Welcome to children's corner!

This section is for the young minds which are concerned about environment and wish to contribute towards their immediate surroundings. Every single step of learning and contributions will be a significant milestone that will bring them closer to nature and help them pursue efforts for ensuring a sustainable future. The central idea is to initiate joyful learning experiences.

This corner has a DIY (Do it yourself) activity that will help the young minds to experiment and come up with a useful and environment friendly art/craft work. Activities posted in this section are dedicated to the UN days of environment relevance. While making the young generation more sensitive towards their immediate environment, these activities also provide them with an opportunity to utilize their creativity in an effective manner. The best entries will be duly recognized.

Hope to see your contribution in this section soon! Please share photos and videos of activities and DIYs on the social media and tag us or send it to us via email and get featured on our social media accounts.

Individual Activities:

Nature Scavenger Hunt: Provide students with a checklist of natural items they need to find outdoors, such as specific leaves, rocks, or insects. They can explore their surroundings to find these items within the allotted time.

Nature Photography: Encourage students to use their smartphones or digital cameras to capture photos of natural elements, such as flowers, trees, or wildlife. After the activity, students can share their best shots and discuss the importance of preserving these natural treasures.

Create an Upcycled Craft: Give each student a set of recyclable materials like plastic bottles, cardboard, or old newspapers. Instruct them to create a useful or decorative item using these materials, promoting the concept of upcycling.

Environmental Collage: Provide magazines, newspapers, scissors, and glue sticks. Students can create collages representing different aspects of the environment, such as plants, animals, and natural landscapes. Encourage them to think about environmental issues while selecting the images.

Green Thumb Challenge: Provide small pots, soil, and seeds. Instruct students to plant a seed and care for it, promoting the idea of growing their own plants and taking responsibility for nature.

Eco-Friendly Slogan Contest: Ask students to come up with catchy slogans promoting environmental awareness. They can write their slogans on paper or create digital graphics using online tools. Select the best slogans based on creativity and effectiveness.

Waste Sorting Challenge: Set up different waste bins labelled for different types of waste (e.g., paper, plastic, organic). Students can be timed while they sort a given set of waste items into the correct bins, emphasizing the significance of waste management.

Environmental Pledge: Ask students to write a personal pledge on how they will contribute to a greener future. They can include actions like reducing plastic usage, conserving water, or planting trees. After writing their pledges, they can share them with the class.

Nature Journaling: Provide students with notebooks and pencils, and encourage them to spend the 20 minutes observing and documenting their surroundings. They can sketch plants, describe sounds, or write down their thoughts about the environment.

Group Activities:

Eco-Quiz: Divide the students into smaller groups and host an eco-themed quiz competition. Prepare a set of multiple-choice questions related to the environment, conservation, and sustainability. Offer small prizes for the winning team.

Recycling Relay: Set up stations with different recyclable materials (paper, plastic, glass, etc.) and divide the students into teams. Each team should have a designated time to collect as much recyclable material as possible and place it in the correct bin. The team with the most items wins.

Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of natural items or environmental features that can be found on the school grounds or nearby park. Divide the students into teams and give each team a copy of the list. The teams then compete to find as many items as possible within the given time limit.

Planting Activity: Arrange for small potted plants or seedlings and provide each student with one. Organize a demonstration on proper planting techniques and then let the students plant their own seeds or seedlings. This activity allows them to connect with nature and understand the importance of planting trees and plants for the environment.

Environmental Art Exhibition: Give students art supplies and ask them to create artwork that highlights environmental issues or celebrates nature. Allow them to work individually or in small groups. Display the artwork in a designated area and encourage students to explain the messages behind their pieces.
