Research Natural insecticides; Insect toxicology and behavior; Plantnatural products.
1. Areas of Interest : Major foci: Discovery and development of botanical insecticides and repellents.
Major collaborations: (i) with Safer Ltd., Univ. of Ottawa and PheroTech Inc. on
development of botanical insecticides from the neem tree (Azadirachta indica) and
discovery and development of new botanical insecticides from timber species of
Southeast Asia and Central America (1988-1996); (ii) with B.C. Chemicals Ltd. and
Arbokem Inc. on development of natural insecticides from tall oil, a byproduct of
the pulp and paper industry (1989-92); (iii) with EcoSMART Technologies Inc. (as of
2015, KeyPlex and Kittrich Corp.) on the development of natural pesticides based on
essential oils (1996-present); (iv) with SemiosBIO Technologies and DE Laboratories
Inc. on bed bug pest management products (2011-present).
Foci of basic research: habituation to deterrents and repellents in insects; synergy
among essential oil constituents.

• 192 refereed publications (includes 28 book chapters); >5800 citations (ISI);
h-index = 38

• 42 invited lectures, 57 invited symposium papers, 4 invited workshop papers, 32
contributed papers
