PIN and PDD

Call for PINs

PDDs developed under the NSS

In consultation with the Technical Advisory Group, the study team shortlisted following projects for PDD development.

Palachan Small Hydro Power Project, Himachal Pradesh, India
Conversion of Municipal Solid Waste (500 TPD) into RDF pellets
(Refuse Derived Fuel) at Okhla, New Delhi, India
Energy efficiency improvement in small-scale foundry units at
  Rajkot cluster, Gujarat, India
Municipal Street Lighting Energy Efficiency Project,
Bangalore Development Auhority (BDA), Bangalore, India
Rural Electrification by Decentralised Distribution Generation
systems through mix of renewable technologies in Orissa, India

During the launch of the National Strategy Study for implementation of CDM in India, a call for a project information note (PIN) for developing few project design documents (PDD) was made with respect to Task 5 of the NSS.

Subsequently the call for PINs was also made through this web site. Further the stakeholders, namely the industrial associations, state energy development agencies, non-governmental organizations, equipment manufacturers, consultants, project developers, project promoters, technology suppliers, financial institutions, bilateral and multilateral agencies, etc., were also contacted by the TERI NSS team inviting PINs.

A snapshot of PINs received

As a response to this call for PINs, TERI-NSS received 68 PINs from various sectors, details of which are as follows:

Sectorwise PINs received
Renewable Energy
27
Power Sector

Number of PINs received
68

A quick analysis of these PINs revealed,

The total annual emission reductions from all the projects is estimated to be nearly 48 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
The renewable energy (RE) sector dominated the PINs received. Most of the sectors in RE were represented viz., wind, small hydro, biomass power, biomass gasification, bagasse cogeneration and solar thermal. Of the total of 27 PINs, 15 were on biomass-based power generation
In the Energy Efficiency category, industries such as steel, cement, foundry, brick, glass, petroleum refinery, paper mill, fertilizer, were represented
PINs were received from all over the country.
The details provided in the PINs varied widely with respect to CER (Certified Emission Reductions) volume, project cost, project status etc.,
A few PINs provided only the project concept.
