Background:
Prasar Bharati is a statutory autonomous body established under the Prasar Bharati Act and came into existence on 23 November 1997. It is the Public Service Broadcaster of the country and its objectives of public service broadcasting are achieved in terms of Prasar Bharati Act through All India Radio and Doordarshan.
Broadcasting organizations all over the world now appreciate the importance of Audio-Visual archiving. The archival programmes, apart from preserving our way of life, also give a contextual meaning to events of those times and hold assets that could be monetized
The workshop titled “Audio-Visual Archives: Issues and Challenges”, shall focus on the experience of Archiving in Prasar Bharati and different organizations including private collections. The workshop shall endeavour to bring out the challenges faced by Archivists, both in the Audio and Video field, and the areas that needs to be focused on, apart from the technological and management solutions available for end to end archiving.
