Thematic Workshop cum Panel discussion on
Digitization and Digital Preservation

Background:
The aim of the workshop is to introduce digitization and digital preservation to audience who are currently planning or considering initiating digitization and digital preservation projects. It gives an overview of digitization and digital preservation program.

The Digitization section of the workshop covers planning digitization projects at both ends of the scale, mass-digitization and non-mass digitization projects. An overview of the digitization processes including preparation of materials to be digitized, scanning processes, OCR and error correction, and layout analysis/Zoning is discussed. Matadata schema, tagging and construction of digital objects are also included. Digitization standards and best practices are briefly covered.

The second half of the workshop Digital Preservation section covers, scope of preservation, OAIS reference model, preservation planning, implementation practices are briefly discussed. Preservation metadata and metadata standards, scalability, trust management are introduced. Digital Preservation capability maturity models and cost models are briefly covered.
