TERI has recently completed a study on pro poor mobility issues under the aegis of the Global Energy Network for Urban Settlements (GENUS), a network established by the UN-HABITAT. The study report titled 'Pro-poor mobility - Policy guidelines and Case Studies' brings together fifty best practices from South and South East Asia, Africa and Latin America on improving mobility opportunities for poor and low income population. |
The report was launched by Mr A K Misra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation on 28th June 2013 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. In his inaugural remarks, Mr Misra highlighted the growing challenge of urban poverty and the role of inclusive mobility in addressing it. Tales of Gorakhpur |
TERI's documentary 'Tales of Gorakhpur - Path Towards a Climate - Resilient Future' was first screened at TERI - Rockefeller workshop on Resilient cities in January. Since then it has been promoted at several forums and has garnered rave reviews. It was screened at the Seventh Community Based Adaptation Forum (CBA7) in Bangladesh; 2013 Humanitarian Action Summit on Climate and Crisis at Harvard University and to a mixed batch of students at MIT, USA. |
The film tells the story of a city grappling with the dual pressures of urbanization and climate change. The film brings out the current vulnerability of Gorakhpur and questions whether the city is prepared for a future that is predicted to have even more rainfall and floods. In particular, it highlights the work of GEAG (Gorakhpur Environment Action Group) in preparing a climate resilience strategy for the city and the efforts of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) towards mainstreaming this strategy in the overall framework of laws and policies related to urban development.
