
Dr. Kanhaiya Lal is working as Associate Fellow & Area Convenor - Environment and Health, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi. He is an Environmental Scientist with working expertise in the areas of water quality and health, air pollution and health, climate change and health, food & nutrition, and industrial wastewater treatment. His research domain is highly interdisciplinary, executed with field research and environmental health surveys by engaging multiple stakeholders. He led the environmental research team on CKDu AP (chronic kidney disease with uncertain etiology in Andhra Pradesh, India) and assessed contaminant exposures through water, food, soil, and air. Dr. Lal was the main contributor to an Air quality and human health assessment project in six Indian cities-Delhi, Ludhiana, Patiala, Panchkula, Jaisalmer & Visakhapatnam. He played a crucial role in an environmental epidemiology project to determine the relationship between open-air stubble burning and respiratory health in Patiala, Punjab, India. He was a vital member of India's short-lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) projects funded by The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Also, Dr. Lal is a Web of Science-Clarivate recognized top peer reviewer of over twenty high-impact international environmental and applied chemistry journals and has reviewed 300+ manuscripts so far.
He obtained his M.Sc. & Ph.D. Dual Degree in Environmental Science & Engineering from IIT Bombay in 2018, working in the area of industrial wastewater treatment using physicochemical treatment processes.
