Delivering the keynote address at a workshop on "Green Buildings Rating and Concepts" organised by the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation, TERI, CII and Capital Area Development Authority (CRDA), Mr Sreedhar, Commissioner of CRIDA said all buildings in Amaravati would be constructed adhering to the Green Building Concepts. TERI is actively involved with CRDA in the implementation of the Green Building Concepts.

India has less than 2 per cent green buildings but there is a huge opportunity to increase that number as about 60 per cent of the infrastructure of the country is yet to be put in place in the next 20 years, according to Mr Sanjay Seth, Chief Executive Officer of the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) Council. He said that green buildings can help in reducing exposure of people to outside pollutants.

Nearly 60 housing societies and commercial buildings in Mumbai have already started generating their electricity requirement by using rooftop solar power plants. Statistics put out by the state power regulator estimate that 150 more consumers from Mumbai and more than 1600 in the rest of the state are slated to replace more than1lakh units of coal power with solar energy within a couple of months once they are provided with special electricity meters which are also known as net meters.
