Dr Shailesh Nayak is currently a Member of the Governing Council of TERI and the Director of National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru. He was Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences during 2008-2015 and Distinguished Scientist during 2015-2018. In his outstanding career, he has provided leadership for programs related to climate change, weather services, polar science, ocean science and modelling, ocean survey, resources and technology. Dr. Nayak is recognised for setting up the Tsunami Warning System for the Indian Ocean and several other satellite-based products and services including sea state for coastal zone management.
