Webinar on Conversion of Dhalos to Scientific Transfer Stations

Dhalaos (receptacles) are a presently used as waste collection points in most cities in India. However, in case of delay in collection, garbage often spills onto the road generating stink and raising fears of rodent infestation and disease outbreak. Transfer stations on the other hand, will help reduce the manual handling of waste and also spillage of waste during transportation.

Ms Shivani Wadehra

She is an Associate Fellow in the Centre of Waste Management with 6 years of experience. She has experience in data analysis, solid waste management, and capacity building. She has a masters degree in Operations Research from Delhi University and Environmental Studies from TERI University.



Presenter

Mr. Robert Dick
Vice President/ SCS Engineers

Mr. Dick received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia and North Carolina. Mr. Dick joined SCS Engineers in 1990 and is a vice president, responsible for SCS' operations in the Richmond, Virginia, office. With more than 27 years of experience working on civil and environmental engineering projects related to solid and hazardous waste management, he has performed landfill and landfill gas engineering projects (design, permitting, and construction) in more than 15 states and several foreign countries. Mr. Dick has also directed and completed numerous project assignments related to solid waste planning and facility projects which have involved residential and commercial collection and recycling programs as well as convenience centers and material recovery facility design, permitting, construction, and operations consulting.


Dr. N.B. Mazumdar
Honorary DG, Sulabh International

He is currently serving as a Honorary DG, Sulabh International. He is retired from HUDCO as Chief (Projects), heading their Waste Management Cell. He has been international consultant to WHO, ADB and Rotary International and has worked in various country and multi-country assignments. In India, he has worked as a consultant to TERI and Sulabh International. Dr Mazumdar has served in several policy and technical advisory committees on waste management and renewable energy technology of the Government of India.


The webinars are being organized under a project funded by UNEP-Climate and Clean Air Coalition's Waste Initiative. TERI and Abt Associates come together to organize a series of webinars for the city network participants as a form of continuing education for improving practices.
