Enables a thorough grounding in macroeconomics, microeconomics, and quantitative methods, alongside an in-depth knowledge of the economics and policy of environmental pollution, renewable and non-renewable resource use, and interaction between globalization and environmental degradation. Aims at building globally relevant capacity in sustainable development practice through cross disciplinary education. The programme is primarily intended for development professionals, seeking holistic understanding of global challenges, and students with a passion to work in the field of development. Intends to meet the human resource requirements of the rapidly expanding fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation. The programme addresses the technical, management, policy, regulatory, and economic aspects of solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, wind, biofuels and biomass, grid integration, energy efficiency, energy conservation, energy auditing, and green buildings. Students are trained to analyse the environment, energy, and socio-economic implications of green energy systems. Graduates will become technical professionals competent to deal with the challenges of energy related issues of sustainable development.

Water governance and management goes beyond traditional field of engineering because of multi-level (local, regional, and sub-national) and multi-dimensional (economic, social and environmental) factors. The Department aspires to provide a platform for various actors to come together for innovative ideas, capacity-building and consensus building for joint action on water challenges of tomorrow.

The Department has attained leadership position in offering programmes relevant for development professionals (fresh as well as mid-career) well-equipped to tackle, beyond cultural boundaries and across sectoral divisions, the interwoven challenges of water sustainability.

The Department maintains relevance of its programmes through regular interaction opportunities with international experts, field visits, and participation in events. It strives to establish a vibrant network of industry and academic institutions, collaborating for the development of learning resources and training material leading to significant capacity creation at various levels.
