Tenth Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture 2011
The Tenth Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture was delivered by Dr Farooq Abdullah, the Hon'ble Minister for New and Renewable Energy on 17 August 2011. An annual lecture series initiated in the memory of TERI's founder, the Late Shri Darbari Seth, the focus this year was on 'A Renewable Future for India'. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abdullah stressed the need to reduce India's dependence on fossil fuels and move towards renewable energy. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by a welcome address by Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI. Dr Pachauri urged people to draw inspiration from the life and values of Shri Darbari Seth, a strong proponent of renewable energy. He said the lecture was a suitable occasion to highlight the need for India to make a rapid transition to renewable energy. Dr Vibha Dhawan, Executive Director, TERI, in her concluding remarks emphasized the need for India to break the barriers of the past in order to succeed in the areas of energy security, resource management, and sustainable development.
TERI's Foundation Day ceremony also felicitated 14 employees who had completed 20 years of service at TERI. The event also marked the announcement of the ‘Roll of Honours' for 20 research professionals for their positive contribution in their respective fields.
