Background

EC (Energy Conservation) Act 2001 has been in force since March 2002, indicating that energy conservation is a high priority area for the Government of India. Under the mandate of the EC Act, BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) is the nodal agency for implementation of policy programme and to implement various activities contained in the EC bill to provide momentum to the energy efficiency actions in the country.

TERI-Bangalore is one of the few organizations known for promoting energy efficiency practices for Indian industries. These activities commenced with the initial support from Indo-EC Project way back in 1990. During the last 15 years, the Industrial Energy Group at TERI-Bangalore has grown as a ‘specialist organization’ dealing with concerted programmes, covering several main elements of the industrial energy with emphasis on promotion of energy efficiency improvement concepts and practices falling under—consultancy, training and research, and information dissemination.

One of the largest group of qualified full time auditors having exposure/experience to deal with various techniques required in evaluating energy efficiency for all types of equipment/systems
Multi-disciplinary group of professionals—most of them intensively trained for advanced energy audit techniques in Germany
Completed 750 comprehensive energy audits, including at least 150 ‘energy intensive industries’ as listed by BEE
Only Institution in India to own a wide array of the latest, most accurate, sophisticated, and portable instruments worth more than Rs 300 lakhs for measurement of electrical, mechanical, and thermal parameters
Developing and utilizing ‘group of essential software', which aids the optimizing/energy saving techniques
‘Temporary Accreditation’ as ‘Energy Auditor’ of BEE and also listed as ‘Energy Auditor’ by several state nodal agencies such as, TNEB (Tamil Nadu Electricity Board), MEDA (Maharashtra Energy Development Agency) and GEB (Gujarat Electricity Board)
Winner of awards for ‘Best Energy Auditor’ and ‘Best Performance Improvement Award’ of PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) for the last three years.
