Industrial
Energy
Background
EC (Energy Conservation) Act 2001 has been in force
since March 2002, indicating that energy conservation is a high priority
area for the Government of India. Under the mandate of the EC Act, BEE
(Bureau of Energy Efficiency) is the nodal agency for implementation of
policy programme and to implement various activities contained in the
EC bill to provide momentum to the energy efficiency actions in the country.
TERI-Bangalore is one of the few organizations known for promoting energy
efficiency practices for Indian industries. These activities commenced
with the initial support from Indo-EC Project way back in 1990. During
the last 15 years, the Industrial Energy Group at TERI-Bangalore has grown
as a ‘specialist organization’ dealing with concerted programmes,
covering several main elements of the industrial energy with emphasis
on promotion of energy efficiency improvement concepts and practices falling
under—consultancy, training and research, and information dissemination.
