OPET India | Objectives | Partners | Geographical
coverage
OPET is a network of Organisations for
the Promotion of (clean and efficient) Energy Technologies. The OPET
Network is a unique body, managed by DG TREN of the European Commission. This Network
comprises 45 consortia and 108 organisations based in the EU and beyond.
OPET Network aims to promote new and
innovative EU energy technologies and disseminate information about them. These energy
technologies cover the areas of renewable energy sources; rationale use of energy in
industry, buildings and transport; and solid fuels and hydrocarbons. To achieve this, the
Network works closely with the wide range of organisations, companies, and individuals
that make up the marketplace.

Delegation of European Commission in India, New Delhi, launching OPET India during the
conference Renewable 21: product and market, 16-17
February 2000, New Delhi. |
TERI (The Energy and Resources
Institute), which is actively involved in development, demonstration,
and propagation of products based on renewable and clean energy technologies,
is now also an Associate Member of OPET Network. As an OPET Associate,
TERI will carry out activities related to dissemination of EU RTD
Framework programmes, and promotion of new and innovative energy technologies,
in close collaboration with European OPET Members.
The cleaner energy technologies, to be
promoted, include the following:
Energy-efficient technologies and innovation in industrial units
(SMEs, or small and medium enterprises)
Renewable energy
technologies
Conventional power
technologies
Objectives
As an OPET Associate, TERI would work
towards:
Dissemination of EU RTD Framework programme and projects on
cleaner and renewable energy technologies.
Enhancement of the level
of awareness among decision-makers, industrial managers, energy suppliers, and SMEs in the
energy sector in the context of recent advances those have occurred in the field of clean
and renewable energy technologies in EU as well as locally.
Facilitating
communications and flow of information through networking among the stakeholders of clean
energy technologies.
Providing analytical
insights in terms of market demand, barriers, and strategies to deploy clean energy
technologies.
Increasing interaction
between regional and European target groups.
Explore the potential of
the transfer of technologies and knowledge related to clean and renewable energy
technologies from EU.
Facilitating
collaborative ventures/activities between regional and European companies and other
organizations including those from the government and public sectors, thereby accelerating
growth of the joint actions.
Specifically, TERI would be working on the
following themes:
Enhancement of market penetration of solar thermal technologies
Assessment study of the
fuel cells for transportation and power generation
Studies on RES market,
including hybrid systems (e.g. PV-Wind-Diesel hybrid systems)
Energy Efficiency in
SMEs
Rural electrification in
third countries
North South
information exchange on RES best practices
Small and medium scale
biomass boiler and stove manufacturers exchange of experience of different
operation and technical concepts and networking of manufacturers
Transnational seminar on
strategies for the development of the solar collectors
Refurbishment of thermal
power plants in India
Promotion of small-scale
hydro power
Dissemination of
information about off shore wind energy
