  TERI organizes workshop on 'Life Cycle Assessment of Hot Mix and Cold Mix Technologies for Construction and Maintenance of Rural Roads'
 
TERI recently completed a study on 'Life Cycle Assessment of Hot Mix and Cold Mix Technologies for Construction and Maintenance of Rural Roads' for the National Rural Roads Development Agency (NRRDA), Ministry of Rural Development. A dissemination workshop was organized jointly by TERI and NRRDA at the India International Centre, New Delhi, on August 18, 2017 to share the study outcomes with key stakeholders, which included senior officials from NRRDA, International Labour Organization, state rural road development agencies from 14 states, Central Road Research Institute, and other government and industry organizations involved in the sector.
Dr Ajay Mathur, Director-General, TERI, delivered the opening remarks in which he highlighted the importance of focusing on the costs and benefits of the two technologies (hot mix and cold mix) in rural road construction and maintenance works.
Mr Rajesh Bhushan, Additional Secretary, Government of India and Mr S Vijay Kumar, Distinguished Fellow, TERI in their opening address emphasized that rural roads are a means of poverty reduction and that new and innovative technologies such as cold mix should be explored for the construction and maintenance of rural roads in order to ensure faster construction and longer life of the roads. Ms Akshima T Ghate, Senior Fellow and Associate Director, TERI, presented the work carried out under the study. This was followed by detailed discussions with the stakeholders.

  TERI signs a MoU with APCRDA and APSEEDCO for implementation of Green Buildings and Sustainable Habitat in the new capital township of Amaravati
 
TERI recently signed a MoU with the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO) for implementation of Green Buildings and Sustainable Habitat at the upcoming new capital township of Amaravati.
Speaking on the occasion of MoU signing, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh expressed his vision for sustainable development of the new Capital City and welcomed TERI's participation for bringing in best practices and expertise to promote energy efficiency, green initiatives and sustainable development.
Dr Ajay Mathur, Director-General, TERI expressed TERI's commitment in fulfilling APCRDA's vision of sustainable Capital City development and highlighted the need for an integrated effort to foster green buildings and energy efficient infrastructure for achieving sustainability in built environment.
 
TERI contributes to the Capacity Building Programme on Sustainable Urban Transport organized by the Institute of Urban Transport
 
The Institute of Urban Transport conducted the 31st Capacity Building Programme on Sustainable Urban Transport of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India from 22nd-24th August, 2017 at H.C.M. Rajasthan State Institute of Public Administration, Jaipur. The programme was organized for the state and city officials of Rajasthan. Ms Raina Singh, Fellow, Transport and Urban Governance, TERI, delivered the session on environmental and social impact assessments for urban transport projects.

TERI contributes to the Capacity Building Programme on Disaster Management organized by the Human Settlement Institute
 
The Human Settlement Institute (HSMI), the research and training arm of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO) organised a two days programme on "Capacity Building on Disaster Management" on 2nd and 3rd August, 2017 at Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA). Ms Raina Singh, Fellow, Transport and Urban Governance, TERI, delivered the session on Climate Change Resilience Strategies and Disaster Management for Cities of the Future.
 
  TERI contributes to NITI Aayog's Transport Working Group for preparing the Development Agenda for India@75
 
Ms Akshima T Ghate, Senior Fellow and Associate Director, TERI contributes to the Transport Working Group formulated by the Infrastructure Connectivity vertical of NITI Aayog in the context of preparing the Development Agenda for India@75. The Working Group aimed to identify strategies for transport sector to contribute towards employment generation, poverty alleviation and attaining the vision of 'Clean India'. The Working Group comprising of key experts from government, industry and research met on 29th September, 2017 to deliberate on strategies for transport sector, which will form part of the Development Agenda for India@75.
 
TERI announces the World Sustainable Development Summit 2018 - 'Partnerships for a Resilient Planet'
 
The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS), TERI's flagship annual event has been conceptualized as a single platform to accelerate action towards sustainable development, especially climate change. The WSDS series seeks to bring together the finest minds and leading thinkers of the world to focus attention on the challenges of sustainable development and has emerged as a landmark event addressing issues pertinent to the future of humanity. The next edition of the WSDS will be held in New Delhi from 15th-17th February, 2018 with a focus on Partnerships for a Resilient Planet.

  GRIHA Council announces the 9th GRIHA Summit - 'Sustainable is Affordable'
 
GRIHA Council announces the 9th GRIHA Summit with the theme 'Sustainable is Affordable'. The summit will be held in New Delhi from 18th-19th December, 2017. Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has kindly consented to inaugurate the summit. The summit will have several eminent speakers deliberating on the relationship between sustainability and affordability in the building sector. 1. TERI contributes to the stakeholder consultation meeting on 'Sustainable Urban Mobility - Breaking Barriers for E-rickshaw as a means of public transport' organized by CEED. Ms Akshima T Ghate, Senior Fellow and Associate Director, TERI contributed to the stakeholder consultation meeting organized by the Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) on 1st August, 2017. The discussion was focussed on identifying the technological and design challenges faced in E-rickshaw operations and the required policy interventions.
2. TERI contributes to the KAPSARC Energy Workshop Series on Transportation
Mr Shri Prakash, Distinguished Fellow, TERI contributed to the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) Energy Workshop Series on Transportation held on 11th September, 2017 in Hong Kong, China. The theme of the workshop was 'The Future of Transportation Energy Demand for Freight in China and India'.
3. TERI in collaboration with EU organized two state-level workshops to formulate Air Quality Management Plans
TERI, in collaboration with Application Europeenne de Technologies et de Services (AETS), France and with support from the European Union, organized two state- level workshops in Panaji (Goa) and Raipur (Chhattisgarh) on 16th and 20th September, 2017, respectively. Mr Sumit Sharma from TERI and Dr Suresh Jain from TERI University conducted the workshops. The objective was to initiate discussions on formulating local Air Quality Management (AQM) Plans for the respective cities.
