Dissemination of TERI’s study on building climate resilience in Visakhapatnam |
TERI organized a workshop on 24 December 2014 to disseminate the findings and outcomes of a climate resilience study conducted in Visakhapatnam. The study was supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of their larger Climate Change Resilient Development (CCRD) program. It focused on the impact of sea level rise and other climate parameters like rainfall and storms in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The workshop was organised in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and was attended by officials from various departments. One of the key study outcomes has been the development of a Data Base Management System (DBMS) for the city authorities to maintain an urban infrastructure inventory. The DBMS records locational and service coverage details of sectors like: Heritage and Tourism, Water supply, Sewerage and drainage, etc. in the city. As part of this workshop, demonstration on the use of DBMS was conducted for the GVMC officials. Mr Pravin Kumar, Commissioner, GVMC mentioned that the results of the study including identification of vulnerable areas will go a long way in addressing the vulnerability and increasing the resilience of the city.
