    BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) and TERI have entered into a partnership to explore collaboration opportunities for solar rooftop, electric vehicles, energy storage systems, energy efficiency and smart grid technologies. The collaboration will foster path breaking research and explore newer collaboration opportunities in the domain of emerging technologies. This will also provide impetus in rooftop PV sector in NCT of Delhi by mitigating challenges faced by discoms.

  • TERI ranked second among world's climate think tanks

    TERI was ranked number two by the International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG), an internationally-renowned body whose activities focus on the design of climate policy and related governance issues. The New Delhi-based think tank was ranked under the category 2016 Top Climate Think Tanks in the Rest of the World-Absolute Global Rankings during ICCGs 23rd annual conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists in Athens in Greece.

  • Stress on collaboration, use of technology for sustainable development

    TERI, North Eastern Regional Centre (TERI-NE) organised an interactive session titled, 'Synergising Efforts Towards Achieving Sustainable Development Goals 2030' at its Guwahati campus recently. The discussion primarily revolved around the challenges in achieving the goal of sustainable development through the SDGs-2030 and the initiatives undertaken in different sectors towards achieving the same. The discussion concluded with a general consensus that, SDGs-2030 cover every sphere of life, and that they are elaborate in nature and one individual department or organisation on its own cannot attain the ultimate goal of sustainable development. Every stakeholder - public, private and community - has a role to play and it is only through concerted efforts that one can progress towards sustainability.

  • India, EU to boost environmental cooperation

    India and the European Union have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of environment, resource efficiency and, circular economy under the EU\'s Resource Efficiency Initiative (EU-REI) for India. The Resource Efficiency Initiative (REI) project will be implemented on behalf of the European Union by a consortium led by Deutsche Gesellschaftf r Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, with TERI, Confederation of the Indian Industry and Adelphi. The project objectives includes assessment of India\'s current and future use of resources and to develop a resource efficiency strategy for India in four sectors - mobility, buildings and construction, renewable energy, and plastic and e-waste management.

  • US announces $7.5 million to advance India's power grid

    The US government will spend $7.5 million to help advance India's power grid, as part of the two countries' commitments to ensuring access to affordable and reliable energy. India's Ministry of Science and Technology and industry will match the commitment of US' Department of Energy, bringing the total commitment to $30 million. The Indian team, led by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, includes partners from IIIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT Bhubaneshwar and TERI, New Delhi.

  • India's green lobby slams Trump for exiting Paris deal

    The US president has announced the US withdrawal from the Paris climate accord. Dr Ajay Mathur, Director-General, TERI and one of the key negotiators for India during the Paris climate summit, termed the decision "unfortunate". Dr Mathur said that the absence of US leadership and financial support in implementing the Agreement could delay actions to both reduce global emissions as well as to adapt to the adverse impacts of the climate change that has already occurred. However, he believes that the positive trends in the decline of prices of renewable energy and energy efficiency will continue to drive global action to ensure that global temperature rise remains well below 2 degrees C.

  • India vows to strengthen ties with Pacific Islands countries

    India hosted 'India-Pacific Islands Sustainable Development Conference' in the Fijian capital of Suva and pledged to strengthen its partnership with the countries of the region as part of efforts to create a sustainable world. The conference is being held under the framework of the Forum for India Pacific Islands Co-operation (FIPIC), with TERI as its key knowledge partner. The conference will focussed on issues such as the blue economy, adaptation- mitigation practices for climate change, disaster preparedness, health, the International Solar Alliance as well as finding practical solutions to Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) implementation.

  • ARAI, TERI study ambient air quality in Delhi and NCR

    The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and TERI are conducting an ambient air quality study to identify sources of pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Commissioned by the ministry of heavy industries last year, the study, expected to be concluded by August, is the first-of-its-kind in terms of scope and takes into account sources of pollution not just in Delhi but the entire NCR. The study has monitored air quality at 20 locations in the NCR. The study will have a model that can be used to a test an intervention by the legislators to gauge its impact on the air quality.

  • Negligible fall in Delhi pollution after odd-even formula, shows new study

    The odd-even vehicle restriction scheme introduced in Delhi for the first time in January 2016 could reduce pollution level by just around 2-3%. The study was done by a six member team of scientists from IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in Pune, Environmental and Biomedical Metrology division of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and TERI.

  • TERI, French firm sign MoU for Clean India

    TERI, Innovative Finance Foundation and 3WAYSTE company have signed an MoU to collaborate on the rollout of a breakthrough technology for municipal solid waste management. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Ambassador of France to India, Mr Alexander Ziegler. Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, TERI said that waste segregation at source has been major challenge since the passage of municipal solid waste management rules in 2000 and again in 2016. The process introduced by 3WAYSTE and TERI proposes to work mixed waste while recovering 90 per cent of resources from it, including for clean energy and quality compost.
