  • Solar initiative powers schools, colleges

    By harnessing solar energy, 12 educational institutions (nine schools and three colleges) and one hostel have emerged self-sufficient in power generation. They will soon be able to sell electricity to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM). The initiative, billed as 'Sustainable Educational Institutions', is the brainchild of TERI and BESCOM. It is sponsored by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under its corporate social responsibility. The solar panels installed have a capacity ranging from 5 kW to 15 kW, depending on the consumption patterns and availability of terrace space.

  • Hope for conservation funds

    Nagaland is likely to receive international funding for management of community-conserved areas in the state, which would help in future eco-tourism initiatives and awareness programme, for conservation of forest and wildlife. A study conducted by TERI in association with the Nagaland forest department stated there are 407 such areas in Nagaland that accounts for almost one-third of the total number of villages (1428 according to 2011 census) in the state.
