Speaking at the Sixth Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture, Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd, shared his vision for the country and spoke of the need for innovation to achieve rapid economic integration. He stressed that a new development model based on a comprehensive vision, exemplary leadership, and extraordinary execution was required, and businesses needed to partner with organizations like TERI to address issues of energy security, food security, and poverty alleviation.

Celebrating 25 years of research and innovation, TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) sought inspiration and guidance from Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd, in defining the path towards inclusive development. The poor in India and the world urgently need the participation and intervention of the resource rich to mitigate the threat of climate change, which exacerbates the vulnerabilities created by economic and resource poverty. TERI has identified the finding of such solutions and their implementation as its priority in the coming years.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr Ambani–ranked fourteenth in the world on Forbe’s list of billionaires – shared his vision for the country and spoke about the need for innovation to achieve excellence in the changing global scenario of rapid economic integration. He said that India was turning a new leaf, however, that change needed to be faster. He urged, “We need to transform India. Our vision needs to be wholistic, where people can access all opportunities, to bring about a rapid socio-economic change. A new development model based on a comprehensive vision, exemplary leadership, and extraordinary execution is required, and we need to partner with organizations like TERI to address issues such as energy security, food security, and poverty alleviation.”

Dr Arcot Ramachandran, Chairman, TERI, made the opening remark and recalled the legacy of Mr Darbari Seth, highlighting the efforts of TERI in sustaining and furthering his vision.

Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon’ble Minister of Power, acknowledged the contribution of TERI towards extensive research both in the country and abroad and in sensitizing the society to issues related to climate change, power, and sustainable development. He added, “Innovation and out-of-box approach not only benefit the nation but also the common man. Further, visionaries like Mukesh Ambani and organizations like TERI, with their continued efforts, are sure to take the cause ahead. ”

Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI, concluded the ceremony by highlighting the endeavours of Mr Seth and his compassionate vision. He said, “Mr Ambani’s lecture has given us a road map for the development of the country. India needs to break the barriers from the past to succeed in areas of energy security, resource management, and sustainable development.”
