  • President Kalam inaugurates Bangalore International Centre: City gets forum for intellectual and cultural synthesis

    The Hon'ble President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, today inaugurated the Bangalore International Centre, a cultural and multi-activity hub in Domlur. Mr T N Chaturvedi, Governor of Karnataka was the guest of honour at the event that brought together the who's who of Bangalore's intelligentsia, corporate world and cultural milieu. The eminent personalities present at launch included Mr S G Vasudev, Mr Ashok Soota, Mr Subroto Bagchi, Dr A L Rao, Mr Alsushi Toyoshima, Dr V K Atre, Dr Bob Hoekkstra, and Mr Chandrashekhar Kambar, among others.

    Speaking on the occasion, Dr Arcot Ramachandran, President of BIC, said, "The BIC has been developed as a hub of intellectual and cultural activities in Bangalore. The centre has been designed to cater to the unique personality of the city, which in recent years has been enriched further through a deepening of its knowledge base and the entry of several sunshine industries".

    Housed in the TERI complex, the BIC was conceptualised viewing the success of the India International Centre (IIC) and India Habitat Centre (IHC) in New Delhi. TERI's innovative complex in Domlur is a model of energy efficiency and environmentally conscious design. It presents a range of possibilities for use by the members of the Centre: music concerts, seminars, book launches, creative workshops, film screenings, training programmes, media events, exhibitions - all can be conveniently accommodated in this ideal habitat. In addition, the Centre also offers residential and state-of-the-art business facilities for members.

    Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI and Vice President, BIC, said, "The BIC is representative of what Bangalore stands for - an amalgamation of intellectual activity, cultural enterprise, and innovation in development".
