  • TERI Launches first ever Technology Exhibition for Sustainable Development: Exhibition to show case environment-friendly, natural resource conserving, and people-oriented technologies

    5 February 2005

TERI, India's most respected not-for-profit research organization focusing on energy, environment and sustainable development today launched the first ever technology exhibition for sustainable development. The exhibition will run from 6 - 9 February 2005 at the Dilli Haat. The exhibition will showcase ideas, innovations, products, technologies, services and solutions that carry immense potential to reduce the ecological footprint of development on the country's natural wealth while also generating opportunities for the underprivileged.

The exhibition was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland, Dr. Arun Shourie, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. The event commenced with the Welcome address by Dr Arcot Ramachandran, Chairman, TERI & former under secretary general UN and thank you note by Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI.

The technology exhibition is an integral part of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) 2005 organised by TERI. Themed around "Sustainable development, innovation, science and technology - for better tomorrow", the four-day event is a local exhibition with global scope.

TERI's technology exhibition is a step in disseminating the wealth of technological solutions for decision-makers and the public for better understanding and pursues their use, which is proven for their effectiveness and economic viability and not mere laboratory solutions, in the fields of:

    Energy & Environment
    Plant Tissue Culture
    Rural Energy

On the occasion of the inaugural ceremony Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI, said "Science and technology is one of the most powerful tools available for sustainable development. Therefore, it is imperative to assume a leading role in creating an environment in which innovations and advances in science and technology are systematically absorbed into the culture for development of people".

"In our endeavour to provide environment-friendly, natural resource conserving, and people-oriented technologies TERI has consciously built comprehensive dimensions. It is with such vision, perseverance, and ingenuity TERI has developed a range of technologies in different disciplines and areas of scientific endeavour. From sophisticated research in microbial biotechnology for remediation of oil spills, to the effective use of mechanical and chemical engineering techniques in developing biomass gasifiers for various applications, or customization of photovoltaic technology for applications that suit the needs of the poorest of the poor," he further added.
