Workshop on High-Resolution Climate Projections and Analysis for India

Date: 9 Feb 2018
Location: Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi Category: Conference

As part of the India-U.S. Partnership for Climate Resilience (PCR), The Energy Resources Institute (TERI) is convening along with, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Indian Meteorological Society (IMS), Understanding Climate Health Associations in India (UCHAI), U.S. Department of State, NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NOAA NCEI), a collaborative workshop on climate modeling and advanced climate downscaling techniques. This workshop on High-Resolution Climate Projections and Analysis for India will be held on February 9th, 2018 at Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, India.

The aim of this workshop is to understand climate projection techniques, outputs, and how it can inform decision making on climate. Participants will gain hands-on knowledge of climate downscaling methods to generate high resolution climate projections and select and use climate projections for modeling in agriculture, water resources and infrastructure planning, climate risk dashboards, and for additional climate information needs.

The objectives of the workshop are to present and explain methodologies involved in downscaling international climate model data for the Indian subcontinent, including NASA Earth Exchange Global Daily Downscaled Projections (NEX-GDDP) and Asynchronous Regional Regression Model (ARRM) as well as IITM Coordinated Regional Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) program for South Asia. The workshop would also elaborate different downscaling techniques currently used by NOAA and IITM.

The participants are likely to be a mix of research professionals, academicians, and students working in the field of climate modeling, climate science, and research.
