India-Japan Energy Forum 2017
Promoting Cooperation in the Energy Sector
TERI, in association with New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japan organized the 7th edition of the 'India Japan Energy Forum - Promoting Energy Cooperation in the Energy Sector' on January 9, 2017 at Hotel Taj Mahal, Man Singh Road, New Delhi. The Forum was inaugurated by Mr Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Government of India and Mr Hiroshige Seko, Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan. It focused on enhancing technology cooperation and business opportunities between the two countries in the energy sector with a focus on renewable energy, grid stability, energy efficiency improvements in the industry, and commercial and transport sub-sectors.
During his welcome address, Dr Ajay Mathur highlighted the issue of increasing energy demand in India and outlined the challenges that India is facing in the energy sector. He also appreciated the efforts of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan and NEDO in organising the India-Japan Energy Forum since 2006. Other speakers in the Forum included senior representatives from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Central Electricity Authority, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Steel, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, India Smart Grid Forum, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. from India and Mitsubishi Electric, Fuji Electric, Hitachi, TEPCO, and Chugai Ro from Japan. The Forum was attended by more than 250 participants representing various stakeholders including policy makers, technocrats, academicians, business communities, and sector experts.
