About TERI-ITEC

TERI is empanelled by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC)/ Special Commonwealth African Assistance Programme (SCAAP), government of India, for this programme. Under the programme, eight courses are being offered for the year 2010-11. These are: Integrated approach towards sustainable development, applications of biotechnology and its regulation, designing and implementing solar energy based livelihood projects for rural communities, climate change and sustainability, decentralized energy solutions-planning and implementation, trade and sustainable development, resource security and governance issues, challenges and opportunities, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Each individual course is a three-week long residential programme conducted in India, attended by participants from other developing countries. The courses are designed to meet the needs of senior and mid-level government and non-government officials from ITEC/SCAAP countries.

Course details

The course would provide an in-depth understanding on various aspects of climate change and its implications on sustainability dimensions. It would enhance the capacity of stakeholders from developing countries on different adaptation and mitigation options.

This course will introduce the participants to the concept of sustainability in the context of climate change, associated impacts and response strategies. Specific modules as part of this course will cover the impacts of climate change at varied spatial and temporal scales, associated risks and vulnerabilities and how these change across regions and sectors. These modules will be presented by sectoral experts and will be supplemented with examples from national and international case studies and best practices.

With a background of these concepts, the current and potential adaptation and mitigation strategies to address specific risks and impacts at appropriate levels will be discussed. The role of national and sub-national policies and its linkages with international policy regime and negotiations and international market mechanisms will also be addressed. The modules and discussions will be placed under the overarching framework of sustainable development and its three dimensions - social, economic and environmental.

Scholarship

The cost of the course, travel, and stay of the selected participant will be borne by ITEC (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India).

Application procedure

Fill up the ITEC/SCAAP application form and submit it to the nodal government department/agency designated to nominate candidates. The nodal department/agency will in turn forward the applications to the Embassy/High Commission of India. Selected participants will be informed by the Indian embassy of the respective ITEC/SCAAP country.

Accommodation

The hostel accommodation for the participants will be on sharing basis in the TERI RETREAT/TERI University.

TERI RETREAT, a training complex, a 35-minute drive from the heart of Delhi and is located in Gual Pahari, Gurgaon, away from the bustle of the city. This 36-hectare training complex is a demonstration of sustainable, green, and productive habitat created through application of scientific methods and technique.

The TERI University campus is an architectural delight planned to provide a setting that enhances learning, while simultaneously showcasing the concept of modern green buildings. The University has a state of the art laboratory, library, and well-equipped IT resource centre.
