(Earth Day Celebrations 2009)

21 April 2009

Coordinator: Ms Neha

About the event

A nationwide paper bag making campaign was organized by Environment Education and Awareness Area of TERI on 21 April 2009 as a build-up to Earth Day.

The campaign witnessed the participation of schools, colleges, institutes, and individuals from all over the country which included Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Chandigarh, Chattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Nagaland, UttarPradesh, Uttarakhand, Pondicherry, and Punjab. It attained an international flavour with the participation of schools from Singapore, Oman, and Qatar.

Our target was to make 1 lakh paper bags and we are delighted to announce, with great humility and jubilation, that we have crossed that mark!! We stand at a staggering number of 1.3 lakh paper bags. The nationwide paper bag campaign was to popularize paper bags and encourage the youth to make their own bags with used paper. We feel emboldened by the overwhelming response that we have received from the campaign and we will continue our work towards creating a sustainable future.
