India is perhaps at the center of the rapid urbanization currently sweeping the world, a theatre of human flight where populations are increasingly concentrating in cities. By one prediction, over 400 million Indians will inhabit cities by 2050.
Disaster risk management can no longer remain isolated from the overall strategy of sustainable development. It is important to ensure that all potential risks of disasters and the mechanisms of reducing the risks of disasters are factored into each of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The study is part of the Eco-City project that will enable Navi Mumbai to move towards environmental sustainability.
