TERI in association with IVE (Veolia Environment Institute) and IDDRI (Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations), organised the International Conference on Energy, Environment, and Development, during 14-16 December 2006 in Bangalore. Attended by close to 200 participants from around the world, the conference concluded with a valedictory address by Prof. Amartya Sen, Nobel Laureate, and Lamont University Professor and Professor of Economics and Philosophy, Harvard University.

 - Conference summary report

Prof. Sen argued that if development is viewed as the expansion of human freedom, it becomes immediately clear that development cannot be divorced from ecological and environmental concerns. He emphasised that “environmental issues are inescapable parts of the battle against poverty", and hoped that the conference would help highlight poverty removal and environmental enrichment as two parts of an integrated task.

Prof. Sen also released TERI’s publication “GREEN India 2047 Renewed: Looking Back to Change Track”.
