On the occasion of the World Ozone Day on 16th September, 2017 which also marks the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol, MoEF&CC and TERI as knowledge partners launched the first edition of a newsletter for service technicians of refrigerators and air-conditioning sector. The newsletter which is titled newsTRAC, will also be available on a web page and a mobile application formats as a repository of all relevant information that will help plug the awareness gap in this sector.

The mobile application will also contain information on relevant regulations, updates on training programmes, good practices for servicing technicians and experiences from on-field work.

Installation, maintenance, and rectification of air conditioners are the three contact points where service technicians engage with consumers. It is critical that a machine is installed properly or else it may be rendered inefficient. There is also a pressing need to generate awareness among consumers about proper maintenance of air conditioners. The information platforms will aim at addressing each of these issues in their subsequent issues which will be published on a quarterly basis.

The newsletter was launched as part of the enabling component of India's HCFC Phase out Management Plan, for which United Nations Environment is the cooperating agency and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) are the national implementing partners.
